What We OfferProductsThe primary product produced by Bluegrass BioDiesel is B100 – a 100% biodiesel product made from a variety of feedstocks, but always meeting rigid ASTM standards. In addition to the manufacture of high grade B100 biodiesel fuel, Bluegrass BioDiesel also has the capability of on-demand blending of B100 grade biodiesel fuel with regular diesel fuel at our custom blending station. The most common blended grade of biodiesel fuel is B99 (99% biodiesel, 1% conventional diesel) – however, other custom biodiesel blends, such as B15 and B20, can be provided depending on customer needs and specifications - just CONTACT US. ProcessBluegrass BioDiesel has the capability to process feedstocks either in single batch or fully automated multi batch modes. Single batch mode allows for the processing of specialty feedstock oils in volumes of 1,000 to 1,500 gallons each. In fully automated multi batch mode the plant has the capability to process large volumes of the same feedstocks or up to nine different batches of different types of feedstocks or feedstock blends. The Bluegrass BioDiesel plant processing facilities can process and convert feedstocks of up to 25% free fatty acid (FFA) content and up to 2% weight per volume of moisture, impurities and unsaponifiables (MIU). The flexibility and efficiency of the Bluegrass BioDiesel plant operations is purely by design. Feedstocks selected to be processed are first filtered through 600 to 1000 micron filter units to remove most of the particulate impurities. Biodiesel fuel produced is filtered at the 10 micron level before it is entered into our final storage tanks. Water, an undesirable contaminant in the production of biodiesel, is removed at three different stages of the overall conversion process via a vacuumed flash evaporation system. In the final stage, any residual water and alcohol is flash evaporated yielding a product that far exceeds ASTM standards for water concentration. The salts that normally result as a byproduct in the conversion of feedstock oils to methyl esters are removed using cationic resins yielding a highly polished biodiesel fuel. The total production capacity for the Bluegrass BioDiesel plant is 200,000 gallons of biodiesel per week. ServicesOur in house laboratory is fully equipped to provide the following services for the analysis of feedstock fats/oils and biodiesel fuels:
Any of the above laboratory analysis methods can be requested a la carte or as a comprehensive analytical panel. Bluegrass BioDiesel also provides feedstock profiling analytical services. Feedstock profiles lend themselves to the optimization of chemical processing in the conversion of feedstocks to biodiesel fuels. Feedstock profiles can be performed on any kind of virgin or used vegetable oils, yellow, white or brown greases, animal fats and marine oils. Feedstock profiles can also be performed on feedstock oil blends and specialty oils recovered from aerosolized cooking oil products. TransportationBluegrass BioDiesel has contracted with an independent trucking company on the transport of both feedstocks to our plant facilities and biodiesel fuels or biodiesel fuel blends to our customers. In so doing we ensure the quality of our product from the feedstocks that we select for processing to the purity of our biodiesel fuel product. Our tankers are each fully insulated single compartment units with 7,000 gallon capacity. In those situations requiring delivery of biodiesel we ensure that the tankers are fully cleaned and dried before any biodiesel fuel or biodiesel fuel blend is loaded. For each shipment of biodiesel to our customers we provide a Certificate of BioDiesel which must be submitted to the IRS for all tax filings as well as a Certificate of Analysis on the biodiesel fuel.
